Meetup at the end of September? [22 Jul 2007|12:26pm]

rouji
Hello! How is everyone doing, post-Deathly Hallows?

There's an event happening in The Holiday Inn in Edison, NJ, and nearly the entire hotel would be available to use. Jeff Mach's Labyrinth runs from September 28-29. Why am I posting about this in an NJ Harry Potter meetup community? For a very good reason! Aside from the fact that it is an event created with the intention of melding many genres and ideas together to create something interesting and varied, it looks like it could be a rather good place for a meetup. There will be things to do and explore at every moment, on every floor of the hotel, so strictly socializing with other hp_nj members can happen, but we certainly wouldn't be limited to this. There will be a Rocky Horror puppet show, a Lovecraftian LARP, live music and entertainment, and a showing of the Buffy musical with audience participation, to name a few things.

And there's a nifty little portion of the event that definitely involves Harry Potter: Slash: the RPG. I don't know how many members here are fans of gaming or slash, but this will definitely involve Harry Potter characters.

As far as pricing goes, tickets purchased in advance cost $15, with $5 from that price being returned in the form of a gift certificate good for nearly anything available for purchase there, including food. More information is available at the Labyrinth website, in the second link of this entry.

What do you think, everyone?

Hey NJ HP fans - It's getting to be almost that time so I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in coordinating some plans for group film viewing and book buying next month.

OotP

Looks like advance tickets are already going on sale. I'm roughly in the middle of the state which might be a good place if we have people from both north and south Jersey, so I'm willing to buy local tickets if there's interest. Or if it looks like more of you who are interested are from the north, we can do that, too. If you're interested, comment with your location and I'll see where people are.

DH

I am sure many of you will have pre-ordered your book by now - if so, where did you order? Are you planning on attending a specific release party?

Book 7 release activities [01 Feb 2007|12:23pm]

marginaliana
For book 6 a bunch of people, myself included, volunteered in costume at one of the NYC bookstores to keep people busy while they waited in line. That was rather fun, I must say (although I wouldn't choose that store again - their organization was... lacking). Would there be any interest in doing something like that but in NJ? I don't even know what stores might be interested in having people but I could ask around.

On behalf of yourhermione [05 Nov 2006|04:29pm]

drgaellon
Because wench18 asked me... The following is quoted from bronxelf_ag001's LJ.

------------------

http://www.limeproject.org

Many of you reading this know Heather, who is on lj known as yourhermione. Last year, right after Christmas, she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Whilst she has medical insurance through her job, she does *NOT* have prescription coverage. The medication which has kept her alive and with us is killing her financially.

Way back in January I had a zany idea to raise money to help Heather pay for her medical bills. A lot of really wonderful people have helped make that zany idea real (and along the way helped me come up with OTHER zany ideas to do the same thing. We started a group, called lime_suckers and tried to get this idea off the ground.

Basically, a bunch of us got naked to help our friend. Cause fuck it. Sex sells and so long as Heather stays healthy and doesn't go broke, I don't much give a shit who looks at me naked*. A bunch of other people thought the same way I do, and now we have a calendar coming out.

14 women.
2 countries.
8 states.

All kinds of shapes and sizes. Something for everyone. The one thing in common is they're trying to help Heather.

ALL the proceeds go directly to yourhermione. We don't see a nickel of it.

I felt strongly that if I cared about Heather, and didn't want her to go broke then it was my job to do something to help. You can too, and I'm not even asking you to get naked. Just order a calendar. That link up there will show you how. If you don't want to order one, that's cool too- there's a way to make a donation without an order. If you have a shop, a store, a place to sell a few? You can order them in bulk. We can take international orders. And if calendars aren't your thing, then after the first of the year the Limesuckers (you're right Mara, it's always limesuckers to me...) will be coming out with *other* products- ALL of them going to help Heather.

It's her job to get healthy. We're trying to make sure she isn't crippled by the debt of doing so for the rest of her life.

-----------------------

This will be cross-posted to as many HP communities as I can think of. Please pardon me if your F-list gets spammed.

coffee/ice cream in Princeton [05 Jun 2006|09:18pm]

marginaliana
Anyone interested in having coffee or ice cream in Princeton this weekend? We can talk about what people have been reading and writing, if anyone's going to Lumos, why Dumbledore is a complete idiot, HP-themed craft stuff (I need some inspiration)...

There are a couple of different places I'd recommend depending on what people want in terms of refreshments.

Anyone interested?

Hello? [22 Jan 2006|02:53am]

Is anyone still here? I was hoping there was still some sort of meetup or something. (My friends aren't too into HP and have been looking for some people to geek out with. lol!)

Anyway, my intro stuff:

Name/Penname: Steph
Hometown/County: Lyndhurst (Bergen County), go to Montclair State in Montclair (what county is that?)
How did you get into HP?: Read the books way back when (Read Sorcerer's Stone in like 99, I think), loved them a lot, and have recently gotten even more into them (as of just previous to the release of OOTP). I got an iPod for Christmas and am hopelessly addicted to Mugglecast.
Favorite fics/authors/OTPs: Not really a big fan of fics. My form of fan expression is mostly in knitting and other forms of crafting.

Happy Halloween [31 Oct 2005|01:26pm]

[ mood | anxious ]

So, is anyone planning on hitting up the NYC premiere of Goblet of Fire? I fangirled outside the Prisoner premiere last year. It was fun, and I met a load of 14 year old girls who told me how "OMGTOMFELTONISTEHHOT!" repeatedly. I would like to go again and would rather not go alone. The Mugglenet podcast (see below) seems silly, too. Anyone interested?

I work in Manhattan, so am very familiar with subways and other forms of public transportation. If anyone wants to come along, we can meet at Penn Station (New York or Newark), the Port Authority or a PATH station.

From the Leaky Cauldron:

Big news! Due to popular demand, Barnes & Noble has decided to move the live Potter/MuggleCast from our first location at the 66th and Broadway B&N, to a much larger B&N, in Union Square in Manhattan (33 East 17th Street, which is between Broadway and Park Avenue).

The recording will be the evening of November 12 - more specific time to come - right after the domestic premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which will be at the Ziegfeld theater on 54th streets between 7th and 8th Avenues.

If you'd like to let us know you're coming - WHICH DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT - it's first-come, first-serve, as more than 500 of you have already told us you'll be there! - or offer any assistance, coffee or cookies, please do so at hplive at gmail dot com. Thank you!

By the way, are any of you dressing as HP characters for Halloween?

Sat. meetup recap [30 Oct 2005|01:46pm]

Tumulty's turned out to be a nice place with variety of inexpensive sandwiches and such. Too bad none of the people actually living in New Brunswick could make it.

We talked a little bit about the books, and various theoriesCollapse )

We also talked about other fandoms and shows; knitting; fanfiction and going to the GoF movie.

It was really nice meeting you guys :)

so... until now I have been assuming that we would be talking about HBP.. but with the GoF movie getting closer, perhaps people prefer to talk GoF? favorite moments, quotes, plot and/or character development, best/worst moments in 'lives' of you most/least favorite characters... other stuff... ;)
